Independent School of the Year for Contribution to Social Mobility – Entry Form

Supported by Christ’s Hospital

Our judges are keen to hear the real story behind how your school has supported upward social mobility during the 2025–26 academic year. Tell them what this looks like in practice. Share your pride in the place you work and explain why bursary students and others from less advantaged backgrounds in your care genuinely benefit from the school’s commitment to helping them get on in life. Concrete examples will help bring your account to life, and any supporting data is very welcome — though please avoid presenting this as a list. Above all, we want to get a sense of how seriously your school community takes the task of helping young people who haven’t had the easiest start in life climb the ladder of opportunity.

These are the key questions your entry should address. Please keep the focus squarely on your work around social mobility, rather than the broader life of the school.

  • Why do you believe your school’s support for social mobility in its community stands out?
What is distinctive about your approach? In particular, how does your school show — in philosophy as well as practice — that it understands the importance of upward social mobility within education? What makes your work worthy of this award? (Around 200 words.)
  • How has your commitment to social mobility in 2025–26 helped pupils from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds achieve educational success and pursue the futures they want?
Tell us about any initiatives launched or developed this year that you are especially proud of. (Around 150 words.)
  • What positive difference has this commitment made within your school, the local community and perhaps beyond?
How has it helped prepare your pupils for adult life in a 21st-century society, and encouraged them to recognise the importance of social mobility — both for themselves and for others? (Around 150 words.)
